This holiday season, come hear the beautiful voices of WomenSing, together with an ensemble of strings, percussion and piano. Join WomenSing as we present music that reveals the joy of generosity and charity, and the well-being to be gained through spontaneous and heartfelt giving. WomenSing’s concert, For It Is In Giving That We Receive, will consider the many ways we all make a difference, and the joy of having done so.
The Welch composer, William Mathias, was noted for his choral works, many of which had been written for the Anglican choral tradition. His Salvator Mundi is a bright and joyful work of seven carols, both sacred and secular, that draw from early 15th to 17th century English prose and Latin texts. The second piece from within this work, Mirabile Mysterium, depicts the wonder of the gift of the Christ Child sent to save the world.
Frances McCollin’s tender composition, In The Bleak Midwinter, is a setting of the complete Christina Rossetti poem that poses the question, ”What can I give him, poor as I am?” Singer-songwriter Carry Newcomer's song, I Give Myself To This, takes us on a chilly day’s walk into a grove of beech trees, offering a glimpse of the many gifts of nature that are always, gently there for the receiving.
Through these pieces, and many more, we will rejoice in charity, gift-giving, and the spirit of the season. From the largest measure to the smallest gesture, from being an audience member or by participating as one singing in the choir, join together with WomenSing for our joyous holiday concert. There will be one performance only. Reception to follow.
