The Donald and Maureen Green Music Center / Sonoma State University
If you have not yet experienced the stunning acoustics of this beautiful new wine country venue, WomenSing offers you an exclusive opportunity you don’t want to pass up. Join us on Sunday afternoon, March 24th, from 3 – 6 p.m. for a unique “Elegant Gathering” at the Green Music Center on the campus of Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park.
This setting is magnificent. Surrounded by the green rolling hills of Sonoma County, the architecture of the Green Music Center is absolutely beautiful. A quiet elegance instantly welcomes you and makes you feel like you belong. The over 100-year-old olive trees that surround the courtyard will take your breath away.
Your adventure begins at 3 p.m. with a tour of this stunning new facility led by Center staff. You will especially enjoy exploring Weill Hall, an elegant performance space with handcrafted, European steamed beech maple seats. The wood dominated interior feels warm and welcoming.
Following the tour, return to the breathtaking Weill Hall where WomenSing treats you to a salon concert. This musical exploration is designed to showcase the Hall’s acoustical features with a variety of musical settings. You will enjoy:
Benjamin Britten
- Benjamin’s Britten’s famous Missa Brevis in D, one of the most widely performed settings for women’s voices. The Kyrie is majestic, the Gloria deliciously rhythmical.
- Songs by turn-of-the century Italian composer, Sir Paolo Tosti, sung by Artistic Director, Martín Benvenuto. Tosti’s songs and arias were admired and recorded by tenor greats Caruso, Gigli, and Bjorling.
- Performed by our own pianist Paul Caccamo and cellist Adaiha MacAdam-Somer, Beethoven’s stirring and virtuosic Sonata Op. 5, No. 2, in G minor is a work requiring tremendous energy and stamina.
- A new arrangement of the warm and hopeful Appalachian folk melody, Bright Morning Stars are Rising, specially commissioned by WomenSing in honor of Martín Benvenuto’s 10th season as Artistic Director.
Prelude Restaurant
Your delightful afternoon ends with a wine reception at Prelude, the Center’s new restaurant. Prelude has already established a reputation for exemplary culinary creations using locally grown produce and exquisite attention to detail. Enjoy a choice of lovely Sonoma County wines, along with cheeses from local artisans and scrumptious hors d’oeuvres.
