Learn from the artist himself! Renowned artist Kevork Mourad will lead you through his unique monotype print technique, using acrylic paint with retarder, and the layering processes he has developed.  Under his guidance, participants will be hands-on, creating a piece of art, and putting these techniques into action!

Kevork Mourad is an internationally renowned artist with a unique “spontaneous painting” technique and layering process. Mourad will be in town from New York for a collaboration with WomenSing and will be performing his animated visual art in real time during our December 2021 concert of The Light of Hope Returning (more info here).

On Saturday, December 4, we have the unique opportunity to take a one-of-kind art workshop with Kevork. It is a one-time event and the number of guests is limited. Anyone age 12 and up, whether you consider yourself an artist or not, is welcome to attend. The workshop gives a unique and hands-on opportunity to experience Kevork Mourad's monoprint and layering techniques using acrylic.

About Kevork Mourad

Born in Qamishli, Syria, Mourad now lives and works in New York City. He is the only resident visual artist for Yo-Yo Ma’s Silkroad Ensemble. Mourad employs drawing and print-based techniques to create intricate architectonic tableaux that recall ancient civilizations and are often visual manifestations of oral-history traditions and the artist’s childhood memories of Syria and Armenia. His projects tackle timely issues relating to sociopolitical histories, the plight of political refugees, and religious tolerance, specifically in Jewish, Muslim, and Christian faiths.

"I know what I’m going to do, but then if I do exactly what I’m imagining, it becomes boring. So the idea of bringing chaos into the work becomes part of the supplies." - Kevork Mourad
