Why Your Support is So Important to WomenSing
The creative, collaborative process at work during our 2012 Youth Inspiring Youth Workshop with composer Dale Trumbore, advising composers Libby Larsen and Sandra Milliken, and Martín Benvenuto
WomenSing was created nearly 50 years ago by women who wanted to express themselves through the beautiful and evocative choral music created for women’s voices. We’ve grown into an award-winning chorus that both celebrates the classics and introduces fascinating contemporary work that we ourselves commission.
We cannot achieve all our dreams without your help. Forty percent of our budget depends on individual donations from people like you. Virtually all revenue is dedicated to musical activities and programs. Every gift is well used and deeply appreciated!
There are several ways to make a tax-deductible contribution to WomenSing.

Established with generous donations from singers and friends in honor of Marcia Hodges, accompanist for the Orinda Women’s Chorale and WomenSing for 30 years, this fund is dedicated to commissions of new choral music for women’s voices. The fund also supports the activities of WomenSing’s exciting project, Youth Inspiring Youth – Commissioning Emerging Composers – a collaborative effort with River of Words in which young poets and their poems connect with young composers to create new choral music.
Established with a generous donation from her children as a memorial to Carol Holley, this fund is “for the purpose of helping talented women who have limited funds with costs of music, costumes, singer fees, and workshop and retreat fees.” Carol’s children have expressed the wish that their initial donation “will be the beginning of something special for many gifted, yet financially limited, women.”
Established with a generous donation from Russell and Wendy Symon as a memorial to Sally Symon, wife and mother. Sally was a long-time charter member of WomenSing. These funds are especially set aside to assist singers with expenses connected with WomenSing tours and travel.
Businesses, companies, and individuals provide significant support by becoming sponsors of a WomenSing concert, event, activity or program. WomenSing works with each sponsor to provide the benefits, recognition and publicity appropriate to the sponsor’s needs.
Demonstrate your belief in the importance of WomenSing and its dedication to choral music for future generations by including WomenSing in your estate plans. Making a legacy gift through your will, IRA, living trust, life insurance policy, or bank account is not difficult. An estate gift is an excellent way to create a named honorary or memorial tribute fund. (See below). WomenSing recommends that you discuss the tax implications and advantages of a charitable gift from your estate with your tax or legal advisor. For more information, please contact WomenSing at [email protected] or (925) 974-9169.
A tribute fund is an excellent way to honor or remember a cherished friend or family member. You may designate your fund for artistic excellence or for a specific purpose or program. Tribute funds may be established with gifts of $10,000 or more. The Hodges, Holley, and Symon Funds are example of tribute funds that have already been created.
