WomenSing Philanthropy Benefits Catherine’s House
In addition to the goal of raising funds for our June 2007 beneficiary, WomenSing is proud to introduce their beneficiary, Catherine’s House, to a broader audience. Because of generous underwriting by individuals and community sponsors, WomenSing was able to give the entire proceeds of their Berkeley concert to Catherine’s House which lies on an 80-acre tract in the Calaveras County township of Sheep Ranch.
Catherine’s House is a modest and comfortable retreat for up-to-nine HIV/AIDS patients and their caregivers. They will pick up clients in their van from Bay Area. Upon arriving, one notices picturesque pond and meadow set amidst ponderosa pine and red, foothill soil. They have an ambitious vegetable garden, chickens and an apple orchard to supply the farm with fresh foods. Solar panels supply electricity. A deep well provides water for the property.
While the organization is humble and efficiently run, they face capital challenges. When solar batteries need replacing, the cost amounts to thousands of dollars. Recently, they have had to dig a deeper well for the property. And now, they are working towards acquiring a solar pump for the new well.
WomenSing benefit performances have brought light to many charitable agencies over the years. WomenSing financial contribution can be secondary to the exposure we give the beneficiary. Often, there are lasting effects from what comes to the agency through individual and business donors as in-kind gifts and cash donations subsequent to a WomenSing benefit concert. It is an unprecedented effort and effect.
